SRK, Aamir, Hrithik, John and co. now cannot claim the sole ownership of being eye candy. Switch on the idiot box and you’ll find enough six packs to drool on. Tellyland heartthrobs are now flaunting those hot bodies just like their filmi counterparts. And they are quite a hit with the ladies too.
Leading the brigade is actor Eijaz Khan. Since the time he started doing TV, the actor has constantly flaunted a hot bod. Ask him about it and he says, “I was a model and did a few bit roles in films too. When you are in that circuit (modelling), it’s important for you to have a great body.” His good looks and great physique helped him bag lead roles in popular shows like Kavyanjali.
Good looks aside, many actors swear by the fitness factor. Actor Aamir Ali who is known for his great physique, says that the reason for him flaunting six packs is fitness. “These days people have become very fitness conscious. They don’t like to see pot-bellied heroes on TV. Plus it’s always good to be fit,” says Ali.
But it’s not just about fitness that makes these men sweat it out in the gym. Actor Gaurav Dixit from Seeta aur Geeta can be seen constantly flaunting his abs in the show. He is of the view a good physique is important to bag roles in the industry. “The TV industry is getting very competitive these days. There are so many good looking guys aspiring to be actors. If they can’t make it in films, then their next stop is obviously TV. And if they have a great body it works wonders for them,” confesses Dixit.
Good looks and a great body indeed, helps an actor go a long way and take big leaps. Karan Singh Grover of Dill Mill Gayye fame is now contemplating quitting TV for films. The actor, known for his good looks and great physique, has a strong female fan-base. That explains his presence in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa finals inspite of not being a great dancer. His co-star from Dill Mill Gayye, Amit Tandon, started off as a singer, but now one can find him showcasing his acting skills on the small screen. “When I started off as a singer I didn’t get the required attention from musicians,” says Tandon. “I was mostly approached by producers to do shows. Finally, I accepted,” confesses Tandon. He however agrees that it’s his looks and physique and not singing, that helped him grab eyeballs.
What started off as a trend with Om Shanti Om, now seems to find takers in telly land too. “Farah made SRK go shirtless for the female audience. The maximum numbers of TV show viewers are women. It’s natural then to rope in good looking guys with great physique for the eye candy factor,” says actor Hussain Kuwajerwala, who himself flaunts great abs.
Fitness, trend or simply competition, telly actors with hot bods are here to stay. The women, meanwhile, are not complainin.
